CAREER AND ACHIEVEMENTS OF DR.RAMACHANDRAN NAIR
Dr.P.Ramachandran Nair is born on 20/05/1942 in a Vaidya/Agricultural family in a rural village- Mundakkottukurussi, Chalavara Village, Palakkad District, Kerala. He had shifted to Cochin in 1957 to help his uncle who was a traditional vaidya and passed matriculation during 1960 from Santacruz Highschool Fort Cochin. He took his Diploma in Ayurveda from Government Ayurveda College, Thripunithura, Kerala State in 1965 with distinction. Passed Post Graduate degree - MSAM from Gujarat Ayurveda University- Jamnagar scoring highest mark in the University examination in 1968. He did a short term Post Graduate course in Physical medicine and Rehabilitation from all India Institute of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, Bombay-34 in the year 1980. He did his Ph.D from the University of Pune, Maharashtra, in the year 1999.

Dr.P.Ramachandran Nair had started his medical practice in 1965. Within a short span of time, he became popular as a physician in the vicinities of Kochi the Industrial Capital of Kerala. His lust for clinical practice and sincere quest for delivering the benefits of Ayurveda to needy patients of the society especially the downtrodden people made him wilfully forsake teaching job offered in the Gujarat Ayurveda University. With this vision he returned to Cochin and restarted his practice in 1968-69.
In 1969, he was selected as a Medical Officer with 1st rank (Ayurveda) by Kerala Public Service commission and joined in Kerala Government Service. After 3 months he was transferred to Government Ayurveda College, Thripunithura. In 1971, he resigned from the Government Ayurveda College and joined in CCRAS service as ARO. He was availed voluntary retirement in 1998, from CCRAS from the post of Assistant Director (Ay) leaving back 5 ½ years’ service and concentrated in his practice.
Government of Kerala accorded him permission to start Self Financing college in 2002 and thus he started an Ayurveda college named as Vishnu Ayurveda College at Shoranur, Kerala and the institution is rated as a Premier Ayurveda Institution in the District of Palakkad. He was the first Principal of this College. Now, Vishnu Ayurveda College is a full-fledged institution and stands one among the best Ayurveda Colleges in the country.
AWARDS AND HONORS
Dr. P.Ramachandran Nair has published 27 research papers in scientific journals. Among these ,23 Research papers have been published in the CCRAS Journal and one each in the Journal of Ayurveda – National Institute of Ayurveda Jaipur, AYUSH, Gujarat Ayurveda University Jamnagar, Aryavaidyan and Nagarjuna. Besides this, he had presented 14 Research papers in the Scientific Seminars all over India.
He has been awarded:-
◉ Hari Om Ashram Gold Medal award- first prize from Gujarat Ayurveda University, Jamnagar in the year 1983 for Clinical Research.
◉ CCRAS Award for Clinical Research for the year 1987-88
◉ CCRAS award for Clinical Research for the year 1991-92
◉ Hari Om Ashram Gold Medal award from Gujarat Ayurveda University -Jamnagar in the year 1999-2000
